Three things every attack requires for the predator to be successful.

An attack doesn't simply just happen. Predators are just as opportunistic as the next person, and they are looking for the right opportunity that will bring them the largest measure of success. In a self-defense class I took through She-jitsu I learned three components of every attack: the predator, you, and the opportunity.

Stop lying to yourself and do something.

How many times have you heard about a horrendous situation on the news when they didn't have a person who said something like, "The world is going crazy! This type of thing doesn't happen here. I'm so surprised." Dear friends, it does and you need to know.

Why you need to learn to change a car tire.

A few summers ago, on my way to a rare outing with other women, I hit a curb and got a flat tire. My excuse is that I was looking at tornado destruction. Even living here my eye was caught and my head turned. So did the wheel, on a curve, and the tire popped.

I'm a proponent of everyone being able to change their own tire because a flat tire leaves a person vulnerable. But it had been a while since I had pulled that jack out, and I stared at it completely at a loss as to how to get it into a usable form. As the car pulled up next to me in the parking lot I had rolled into, I realized my mistake.

Be smart in your defense for optimal pain.

Many self-defense classes speak about the soft spot target areas where you would want to strike an attacker. A soft spot is an area on our body where damage and pain can be done easily and quickly.

Your voice is strong and needs to be heard.

I find it none too ironic that the words for this post took their time in coming to me. Too often in this life we are silent. Too silent for our own good and the good of others. But what is so important, across the board, is to find our voice and to use it.

The bottom line is neither choice is easy.

You've realized a relationship needs an overhaul. It's a wonderful moment full of hope and excitement but fear as well. Where do you go? What do you do? Exactly what needs to happen for this relationship? Generally speaking you have two choices.
  1. Try again.
  2. Quit
Both of these choices are hard, both of these choices require a lot of work and change.

Shopping Cowl

I was walking through Target and it drew my attention almost immediately. They are currently selling the softest, loveliest cowls which are made large and giant, and I knew that I wanted something just like that, if not that itself. Then I was at Hobby Lobby and I saw the perfect colored thick squishy yarn for me for this season. I generally make a new scarf or cowl every time the temperatures start to drop in a year, and this one was no exception. Because of all the shopping involved in the inspiration of this project, the name was sort of a no-brainer. I am pleased to introduce you to the: Shopping Cowl.

You have the ability to understand scripture.

I will admit, I am a strong Martha defender. If you want to know part of Martha's story, go read here. It is the story of her brother's death, and what followed. The pastor at a church I attended talked about this story but what he said did not line up with my understanding of the story.

If you cherish life you protect it from evil.

Sometimes what I come up against in regards to self-defense and Christians is the mentality we shouldn't use violence for protection. I want you to know I do understand this apparent conflict between Christ's love and the defense of ourselves. I simply no longer think it's an actual conflict.

I gained more than a medal reaching the finish line.

I can't decide if these are things I learned going after a goal, or from running a half marathon. Do the lessons cross to other things aside from running? I believe so, actually. I believe what I am going to share here is for anyone, it just so happens they come from me working towards and running my first half marathon race.

How to keep seeing the beauty in the season

Today my plan was to run away with Captain. We were going to head to a rose garden a few hours away and spend the day among the scents and sights of beauty. Alas, the garden is closed on mondays, but I'm really glad we learned that prior to heading out. So, instead, we ran away to the Myriad Gardens right here in the area and spent a lovely morning with a multitude of plants, a few geese, and one or two butterflies. It was a lovely refreshing time which helped us refocus.

What life looks right now.

I'm being a bit of a follower today, but that's something I'm good at. My inspiration can be found from this Facebook page I recently began following because of words which spoke truth. If you are new around here you will learn a bit about me from this post, and maybe things you don't even care about. If you have known me for a while, some of this will be a surprise and some wont. It depends on how well you know me now.
