Ruth was not the first daughter born in her family. In fact, her parents had gone to a priest and paid money to him for the blessing of a son because they already had enough girls. Some families think one is enough because South Asia simply do not see any good coming from being a female. They can't work to support their parents when they are older, they cost money in marriage dowry that the family sometimes does not have, and they do not carry on the family name. But Ruth's parents were especially hard on her, making her work at 5 years old in the field, giving her little food, and no clothes. I can't imagine the hardship this girl had in her life growing up, and in so many cases it goes from hardship to hardship. But for Ruth someone made a difference in her life. Please go watch the video and consider how you can help out the missionaries who make such a difference to the women in this area.
